INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC FLIGHT ROUTES TO THE MAASAI MARA

Kenya is served by a number of international airports, including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, the Kisumu International Airport and the Moi International Airport in Mombasa. The &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp is located just north of the Maasai Mara National Reserve and is served by a private airstrip, which receives two flights from Mombasa and Nairobi Wilson Airport each day. In addition, charter flights can be organised from either airport at a time that suits you. The Kichwa Tembo Airstrip is around 30 minutes’ drive from the camp, with your first game drive experienced en route.

ARRIVING INTO JOMO KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (NBO)

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is served by a number of international airlines, including Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, Emirates, Kenya Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Precision Air, South African Airways, Turkish Airlines, RwandAir and Egypt Air.

If your international flight arrives before 11:00 am, it’s possible to make a same-day connection to the Kichwa Tembo Airstrip (minimum of two passengers) from Nairobi Wilson Airport. The flight time from Nairobi Wilson Airport to the Kichwa TemboAirstrip is approximately one hour.

Alternatively, you may make the journey from Nairobi to the &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp by road, which takes around six hours.

Depending on your arrival time, you may need to overnight in Nairobi before flying to the Maasai Mara the following day.

ARRIVING INTO MOI INTERNATIONAL IN MOMBASA (MBA)
Moi International Airport is served by a number of international airlines, including Ethiopian Airlines, Air Italy, Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Uganda Airlines.

CHARTER FLIGHTS

In addition to scheduled flight routes, it’s also possible to charter a private aircraft directly to the Kichwa Tembo Airstrip from various airports in Kenya. Unlike scheduled flights, these private charters have the benefit of no luggage weight restrictions, which makes them a good choice for those who can’t pack light. You can also select the flight time that’s convenient for you, with the option to land at the airstrips at any time during daylight hours (sunset is between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm).

LOCAL AIRLINES AND LUGGAGE RESTRICTIONS

Local Kenyan airlines include SafariLink and Mombasa Air Safari. They all use Cessna Grand Caravans or similar aircraft that can accommodate 9 to 13 passengers. Luggage is restricted to 15 kgs per passenger and must be carried in soft-sided bags or suitcases (no hard shell cases are permitted).
