Ngorongoro Highlands

Straddling the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the Ngorongoro Highlands are a dramatic series of volcanic mountains that lies just south of the Serengeti. The region boasts magnificent views across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is the ideal place to relax after wildlife-spotting in the Ngorongoro Crater or as a way to break up the return journey to Arusha from the Serengeti.

NOT SURE WHERE TO VISIT IN AFRICA?

The Ngorongoro Highlands form part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which protects the lands and traditional way of life of the Maasai people. As the region is not within a national park, the usual rules and restrictions don’t apply, meaning visitors can embark on long hikes through the volcanic landscapes.

Gibb’s Farm takes full advantage of these opportunities with its guided hikes, farm experiences and cultural encounters, which perfectly complement a day or two spent wildlife spotting in the Ngorongoro Crater. Aside from its staggering wildlife diversity and natural beauty, the region is also home to the Olduvai Gorge, which has been dubbed the “Cradle of Mankind” due to its archaeological finds dating back nearly two million years.
