When to Go

Best time to visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The dry season from June to October is generally considered the best time to visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area as the crater grass is much shorter and wildlife is easier to see. The days are marked by clear, sunny skies and there is very little rain, which reduces mosquito numbers and the chance of contracting malaria.

That being said, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area still offers superb wildlife viewing during the wet season from November to May, with the scenery lush and green. The rains are mostly short, afternoon downpours (except during March, April and May) and you may benefit from better accommodation rates due to the lack of demand.
