Situated to the west of the Serengeti National Park, the Grumeti Reserve is a 350,000-acre private concession on the direct route of the Great Wildebeest Migration. It’s an ideal base for experiencing this magnificent wildlife spectacle as millions of wildebeest and zebras move to the Maasai Mara in search of new grazing pastures.

Singita features five small properties in the region that boast exceptional game viewing, with far fewer other tourists compared to the busy Seronera area of the Serengeti. The rules and regulations are also different from the neighbouring Serengeti National Park, with guides permitted to drive off-road in pursuit of animal sightings and walking safaris also allowed. You can meet the locals during a community visit or go behind-the-scenes with an anti-poaching unit to learn about the frontline of wildlife protection in the region.

NOT SURE WHERE TO VISIT IN AFRICA?

June and July are the peak months for seeing the massive herds of wildebeest in action and as they attempt to cross the crocodile-infested Grumeti River. However, September and October are also great times to visit, with the herds of zebra and wildebeest grazing on the short grasses of the reserve, accompanied by Thomson’s gazelle and majestic elephants.

Guests can select one of Singitas luxury lodges, their exclusive safari villa or their mobile tented camp, which follows the migration as it moves through the Serengeti region. In addition to luxuriously-designed suites, cottages and villas with private butler services, their lodgesalso boast indulgent spas, fitness centres and infinity pools directly overlooking the sweeping savannah.
