Singita Kwitonda and Volcanoes National Park

Singita Kwitonda and Volcanoes National Park

Situated in the far northwest of Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park lies along the slopes of the Virunga Mountains that straddle the border with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It encompasses evergreen forests, open grasslands, swamp and heath, as well as large tracts of bamboo that provide a food source for endangered golden monkeys. But it’s the mountain gorillas that have put Volcanoes National Park on the map, with this being one of the best places to come face-to-face with these magnificent primates in the wild.

NOT SURE WHERE TO VISIT IN AFRICA?

The Singita Kwitonda Lodge lies on the edge of Volcanoes National Park and boasts a stunning setting for guided treks to see the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Led by experienced guides and armed scouts, these once-in-a-lifetime treks are  wildlife encounters to tick off your “bucket list”. In addition to primates, the park is also home to more than 170 recorded bird species, many of which can be spotted during hikes. Strictly capped visitor numbers are enforced to ensure the gorilla families aren’t negatively impacted by tourism while creating an exclusive experience for those who make the journey to the mountains.
