INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC FLIGHT ROUTES TO ZANZIBAR

Tanzania is served by a number of international airlines, including Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airport in the north of the country. Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar is the main aviation gateway to the archipelago and receives flights from Europe, the Middle East and other African nations.

 

ARRIVING INTO ZANZIBAR INTERNATIONAL

Zanzibar International Airport is served by a number of airlines, including Fastjet, FlyDubai, Kenya Airways, MANGO, Meridiana, Qatar Airways, Precision Air, Oman Air, Ethiopia Airline and Turkish Airlines.

 

Depending on your arrival time in Zanzibar, you may need to overnight on Unjuga Island before continuing your journey to Mnemba Island. Our safari team is on hand to arrange domestic flights, airport transfers and local accommodation to suit your itinerary.

Zanzibar features a number of beach resorts where you can relax for a few days or you can opt for a convenient overnight stay in the capital, Stone Town, which is just a 10-minute drive from the airport.

Mnemba Island Lodge collects guests from Abeid Amani Karume International Airport or Stone Town to make the 1.5-hour trip by road to the coast. From here, it is just 10 minutes by boat to Mnemba Island. It’s important to be aware that there are no jetties on the island and you may be required to wade a little in the water on arrival. All boat transfers are weather dependent.

 

ARRIVING INTO JULIUS NYERERE INTERNATIONAL IN DAR ES SALAAM (DAR)
Julius Nyerere International airport is served by a number of airlines, including Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, Fastjet, FlyDubai, Kenya Airways, Malawian Airlines, Precision Air, Qatar Airways, South African Airlines, Turkish Airlines. From here,

If your international flight doesnt allow for a same-day connection to Zanzibar, you can overnight in Dar Es Salaam and continue the next day.

From Dar Es Salaam, you can catch one of the many daily ferries that depart from the ferry terminal to Zanzibar, with the journey taking between two and three hours. Alternatively, you can fly from Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar, which takes just 20 minutes.

 
TRAVELLING FROM SERONERA (SEU)
ZANZIBAR (ZNZ)

If you want to travel direct from the Serengeti to Zanzibar, there are several flights that depart daily from Seronera with local Tanzanian airlines. The flying time is around 2.5 hours.

 

LOCAL AIRLINES AND LUGGAGE RESTRICTIONS

Local Tanzanian airlines include Air Excel, Coastal Aviation, Regional Air, Auric Air and Flightlink. All of these airlines use Cessna Grand Caravans or similar aircraft that are capable of carrying 9 to 13 passengers. Its important to be aware that luggage is restricted to 15 kg per passenger and these limits are strictly enforced. Luggage must also be carried in soft-sided bags or suitcases, with no hard-shell cases permitted onboard. 

CHARTER FLIGHTS
In addition to scheduled flight routes, its possible to charter a private aircraft directly from your safari endpoint to Zanzibar. Charter flights arent restricted by luggage weight limits and you can choose the time of the flight during daylight hours (sunset is between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm).
