June and July are generally considered the best months for visiting the Serengeti if you want to see the annual Great Wildebeest Migration in full swing. But the Northern Serengeti is particularly exciting in August when the herds begin their crossing of the Mara River, with this wildlife spectacle continuing into early September.
The Northern Serengeti usually experiences light rains from November through to March, with short downpours followed by clear, sunny skies. March to May is marked by heavier downpours that can cause some disruptions but does result in exceptional birdwatching as migratory species flock from Europe and Asia.
