Kigali

Discover Kigali – Rwanda’s Dynamic Capital & Cultural Hub

Introduction

About Kigali

Founded in 1907 when Rwanda was under German colonial rule, Kigali has been the capital of Rwanda since 1962 when the country gained independence. An attractive city with few tall buildings, the city is spread over several hills and has a reputation for being clean, safe and friendly.

The town center is both vibrant and colorful with the main shopping and entertainment district surrounding the five-star Mille Collines hotel. Local markets, the Muslim Quarter and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial are some of the main attractions.

Kigali International Airport is accessible via Johannesburg, Nairobi, Entebbe and Dar es Salaam, and is the entry and exit point for travelers en route to Volcanoes National Park for the gorilla hike. Since the park is only 80 kilometers from the capital, many visitors head to the park or the nearby town of Ruhengeri immediately after arriving on a safari in Kigali - although there are several perfectly laid-back yard hotels nearby. fly.
