Laikipia Safari Adventures: Exclusive Wildlife & Conservancy Experiences in Kenya
Stretching from the Great Rift Valley to the foothills of Mount Kenya, the Laikipia Plateau is a unique “community tourism” destination that’s operated as a collaboration between local ranchers and tribal communities. It encompasses open grasslands, rocky kopjes and life-giving rivers, which were once occupied by large cattle ranches established in the colonial period.
This private wilderness now offers visitors exclusive wildlife-viewing experiences, with breathtaking natural beauty and several endangered species. While it doesn’t boast the wildlife density of the Maasai Mara, it’s home to healthy populations of elephants, Grevy's zebra, rhino and oryx, as well as being one of the few places in Kenya where you can see Jackson's hartebeest. It also supports unique northern species such as Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe, which can be spotted on walking, horseback riding and camel safaris.
Highlights of the Laikipia Plateau include the Sweetwaters Game Reserve, the Lewa Conservancy and the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which boasts the largest concentration of wildlife in the region.
