Welcome To Cottars 1920s Safari Camp
Positioned on a private 6,000-acre conservancy alongside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, this vintage-style safari camp was established by Calvin and Louise Cottar in the mid-1990s. It was inspired by the golden age of safari travel in the early 20th century when visitors began flocking to Kenya to experience its incredible wildlife encounters.
With distant views of the Serengeti plains in neighboring Tanzania, the camp’s stunning location provides easy access for day and night game drives in the Maasai Mara National Reserve and its adjacent conservancy. It features just 10 tents for an intimate safari experience, with a centerpiece swimming pool and two main mess tents where you can dine and relax.
Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp has been the recipient of numerous awards and is run by one of the longest-established families to be operating safaris in Kenya. A century after they began, they continue to provide exceptional hospitality and stay true to the original essence of what it means to go on safari.

Meals are served in a large, open-fronted mess that overlooks a manicured lawn. The large dining table hosts communal meals, with produce sourced from the on-site herb and vegetable garden. Breakfast includes cooked dishes and continental choices while lunch is generally served buffet-style, with salads and quiches. Dinner is always a set three-course menu, with most wines, beers and basic spirits included in the rate. Picnic breakfasts and bush lunches can also be organised with the kitchen, as can dinners under the stars.
